Brian H. Taylor, Ph.D., MBA
President and Principal Consultant
Dr. Brian Taylor, GCS President and Principal Consultant, has fifteen years of molecular biology research experience and fifteen years of tactical marketing, strategic marketing, and commercialization consulting experience.
Before founding Growing Company Solutions in 2004, Dr. Taylor served as Director of Strategic Marketing with QIAGEN N.V., a worldwide leader of products for nucleic acid and protein purification. In this position, he analyzed global research products markets, worked with senior management to formulate corporate strategy, and served on the QIAGEN Technology Council, overseeing technology acquisition for QIAGEN R&D. He also managed a North American tactical marketing group for QIAGEN for seven years, launching numerous products and achieving a >40% organic compound annual growth rate.
Dr. Taylor’s life science research experience includes postdoctoral work with the CSIRO in Canberra, Australia and a faculty appointment at Texas A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Washington and an MBA from the R.H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.

Dietrich Ruehlmann, Ph.D., MBA
Dr. Dietrich Ruehlmann, GCS Associate, has over seven years of experience in the development and commercialization of life science instruments and software.
Following pre- and post-doctoral research work in cardiovascular physiology and cell biology, Dr. Ruehlmann joined Amersham Biosciences (now GE Healthcare) as part of the IN Cell Analyzer development team. He transitioned through several positions of increasing responsibility, leaving as Manager, Strategic Marketing to join an early-stage automated high-content cellular assay company, Atto Biosciences. After Atto was acquired by Becton-Dickinson, Dr. Ruehlmann was engaged by a New Zealand government agency, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, as Senior Business Development Manager for Biotechnology and Medical Devices. With his team, he supported forty-five client companies in the US and South American markets and led twelve tradeshows and several commercial missions. Dr. Ruehlmann also developed strategic briefing papers guiding future sector work, and developed and maintained relationships with partner Economic Development agencies and industry organizations. In 2010 he left NZTE and founded Oscamo LLC, a commercialization consulting firm, and served as Director Business Development for the rapidly-growing New Zealand nanotechnology company Izon Science.
As an Associate of GCS, Dr. Ruehlmann works with Dr. Brian Taylor to help US and foreign companies achieve their commercialization goals. Dr. Ruehlmann has a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from King’s College, London and an MBA from the R.H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
